EUREKA!
MASTER
FOR CAREGIVERS
1.Begin the day with three deep breaths (Holding to the count of 5 and exhaling). Take a walk around your backyard or down to the corner. Breathe again at noon and in the evening. (Okay, you can breathe in between, too.)
2.Read a positive inspirational thought for the day from a meditation book, my book, an online spiritual site, or the Bible.
3.Give yourself a direction for the day based on the reading (i.e. Today I will smile often). Write it down. Prove it “works” during the day. Report on your success in the evening. Keep track of your successes.
4.Around lunchtime, close your eyes for 10 minutes and embark on a mind vacation. Remember your own favorite vacation spot or imagine playing in one of the scenarios captured in these Door County Wisconsin summertime photos.
5.Call your buddy, the person who will emotionally support your efforts to relax more and will help motivate you to pay attention to your needs and goals. This is someone who will cheer your success and is strong enough to call you on your excuses and procrastination. I’m available to help you learn how to do this for 21 days but I cost money. Presuming you’ve read Eureka!, you could instruct a “free” friend on how to help you establish your own style of Eureka! living.
6.At night, write down at least one of the miracles that has happened to you today for the Gratitude with a Twist List that I described in Eureka! Certainly you can find an extra couple of minutes to think about why you are grateful.
7.You’ve had your bubble bath? A cup of herbal tea? Cherry Juice? So it’s time for bed. Lock your troubles in a dresser drawer for safekeeping overnight. Count yourself to dreamland, progressively relaxing your body, beginning with your toes all the way to the top of your head. Nitey-nite.

EUREKA IDEAS FOR
CAREGIVER AND PATIENT

1. Sometime during the morning, join hands and hearts as you say aloud, “Today, we are getting better together.” Do it with gusto! Remember that this message is meant for you as well as the patient.
2. You can enjoy a mini-Eureka! adventure every day. I always scheduled our playtime in the early evening before dinner. That’s when you can do something creative and fun together with the patient. Color a picture (click here), piece together a jigsaw puzzle, solve a crossword puzzle, play tiddly-winks while you reminisce about the good old days. Make one old memory come alive—with all the emotional trimmings—during your play hour conversation.
3. Start making plans for your big Eureka! activity for the week.
Here's an idea. Go for a short 5 min. walk...to the park...around the block...or your own backyard
